According to data from Nielsen, nearly 20 Million people watched the Thursday night, first hearing, of the House committee investigating and judging the January 6th attack on the United States Capitol across all cable news networks.
ABC witnessed the largest haul of viewers with 4.8 Million of them and following close behind was NBC (3.5 Million) and CBS (3.3 Million).
MSNBC brought in an astonishing 4.1 Million viewers which are nearly five times what the network would average on a typical weeknight…
Fox News came in second place on the cable scene as they averaged 3 Million viewers and CNN followed closely behind with 2.6 Million viewers.
Even with a boasting amount of views, Fox also took criticism for not allowing continuous live coverage of the hearing on its main channel. There was no preemption to the regularly scheduled shows as within the hearings we also got to watch some Tucker Carlson, Sean Hannity, and Laura Ingraham.
Live coverage of the hearings could be seen from the Fox Business Network, which makes no sense for one but also rating figures find that broadcasting on that specific network only meant 223,000 viewers watched on.
The figures/data produced are almost definitely going to grow as many looks to watch through live streams. Live streams such as YouTube TV and other platforms weren’t accounted for.
