This week, the lower house of the Russian parliament is set to join together for a session shortly after President Vladimir Putin’s remarks of “not even [getting] started” in Ukraine. Last week, Putin used a meeting with the parliamentary leaders to challenge the United States and its allies to attempt a defeat Russia in Ukraine.

According to Vladimir Vasilyev, the head of the United Russia Party, nearly 60 issues will be reviewed at the session. He said, "It is necessary that the processes going on now receive a legal response. So the council discussed the agenda for the 15th: we plan to consider a little more than 60 issues.”

There has been no indication as to what the 60 issues concern, but the Communist Party said more than 80 draft laws would also be discussed.

At his meeting last week, Vladimir Putin was told that the Russian parliament would help two Russian-backed self-declared breakaway republics in Eastern Ukraine to develop a legal system. Military operations in Ukraine, according to Putin, are extremely necessary due to the defense of Russian-speaking people facing persecution. Something which Putin claims the West has ignored.

Ukraine has repeated its defense stating that Putin has no justification for his land grab. Vladimir Putin has recently changed his tone and has indicated his belief that the war is now one between Russia and the United States. Since 1991, the United States has humiliated Russia, according to Putin.

Even though President Biden stated that Putin “could not remain in power,” it was later stated that the remarks did not mean that the United States was seeking a regime change.
