A New Omicron Focused Vaccine will be here as soon as September
Many health officials have their concerns but have also displayed their support for an Omicron focused vaccine come the fall...
The Covid booster campaign being driven by the Biden Administration is reportedly being shifted to focus on the Omicron variant. Both Pfizer and Moderna have told the White House they can deliver doses of a new booster with new formulations. The FDA has asked vaccine manufacturers to update the shots to better defend against the Omicron strains.
Multiple health officials have been advocating for increased access to re-up immunity from the White House. However, the CDC and the FDA have stated their concerns that encouraging people to get a second booster now could make the timeline between it and an omicron-specific booster too short and that would lead to the possibility of rising risks of myocarditis.
Many health officials have also expressed their concerns surrounding vaccine fatigue in the United States. All adults are expected to be eligible for the updated booster shots when they’re available. Currently, 48% of eligible Americans have received their first booster dose of the vaccine with just 30% of those eligible to receive a second booster.
The CDC has continued its campaign to encourage those eligible for vaccinations to obtain the shots and practice social distancing.
