Local offshoots of the Islamic State have carried out multiple attacks since that time. Relative security still lays a challenge for the Taliban in setting Afghanistan on a path of economic growth and economic stability.
Multiple roadblocks stand in the way of developing social growth and social stability as well. Pressures on the economy have so far been caused by the country’s isolation as other governments will not recognize the current rulers — the Taliban.
