An Oath Keepers leader Pleads Guilty in Federal Court yesterday
This is an ongoing trial with new individuals taking plead deals weekly...
A little preface - as I needed to research who these idiots were too - but the Oath Keepers are an American far-right anti-government militia whose members claim to be defending the constitution of the United States. It encourages its members to disobey orders that they believe would violate the U.S. Constitution. The group was founded in 2009 and has a play on the January 6th attack on the Capitol.
One of their members, and one of 11 facing sedition-related charges, Brian Ulrich pleaded guilty to “obstruction of an official proceeding” and seditious conspiracy in federal court yesterday. Brian agreed to a plea deal and according to it, he will cooperate with the Justice Department in its historic prosecution against the Oath Keepers. In addition, he could face more than 6 years in prison but the prosecutors will ask for a lower sentence if Brian offers the wanted cooperation.
Prosecutors are working to show how they believe the Oath Keepers had plotted to stash weapons across the Potomac River, go to the Capitol building, and stop Congress’ certification of the Electoral vote. Recently, the Oath Keepers have found themselves in a bigger pickle as prosecutors begin to rely on evidence such as private messages, a video of the group from the week they were in DC, and the cooperation now of nearly 6 other Capitol rioters.
During the hearing, District Judge Amit Mehta asked “Did you do that, agree with (Oath Keepers leader Stewart) Rhodes and develop a plan to stop the lawful transfer of presidential power, by force, on January 6, 2021?”
Urlich responded: "Yes, your honor.”
At some moments, Ulrich was whining like a baby, who during the time of planning the January 6th attacks had no remorse any felt weak. He agreed that he "intended to influence and affect the conduct of the United States government and to retaliate against the United States government."
"Someone can tell me if I'm crazy but I'm planning on having a backpack for regular use and then a separate backpack with my ammo. I will be the guy running around with the 'budget AR.'"
Ulrich stated in his Signal chat with himself, Rhodes, and others
In other messages, there were mentions of possible civil wars if Biden was inaugurated. Ulrich played part in these messages as well as he wrote "We must win. We must defeat these radicals, there's treason at work here. When someone committed treason it used to mean something. you used to pay with your life!”
The Oath Keeper leaders on trial traveled together to DC on January 4th and in multiple plea agreements, the individuals admitted to bringing a semi-automatic handgun on the trip. On the day of the attacks, Ulrich, James, Grods, and others rushed the Capitol building in golf carts. When they arrived, the group maneuvered through the mob with their hands on each other’s shoulders and eventually breached the building.
