Antony Blinken gives the Reasoning Behind the United States' Urges to Aid Ukraine
"If we allow a big country to bully a smaller one, to simply invade it and take its territory, then it's going to be open season..."
If Russia was allowed to act as if it were Ukraine’s bully — meaning taking territory with no opposition — then the world would turn into a type of “open season,” according to Antony Blinken, the United States Secretary of State. Countries such as China would simply invade Taiwan and take it over.
"If we allow a big country to bully a smaller one, to simply invade it and take its territory, then it's going to be open season, not just in Europe but around the world."
Antony Blinken said.
The United States, for this reason, felt it was a top priority to stand up against Russia due to its aggression against Ukraine threatening the principals of the global system. Naledi Pandor, who was speaking alongside Antony Blinken, said no one in South Africa approved of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
"We should be equally concerned at what is happening to the people of Palestine, as we are with what is happening to the people of Ukraine.”
Naledi Pandor said.
Antony Blinken added comments on the words of Chinese officials concerning the cooperation being cut off with United States officials due to Nancy Pelosi visiting Taiwan. China has also warned it would cut cooperation with the United States surrounding climate change. Blinken stated it was a “punishment to the entire world, and especially the developing world and, notably, Africa.”
