Beijing to Ease Restrictions as the most Recent of Covid Outbreaks is Under Control
Shanghai is also witnessing easing of restrictions along with five other districts...
As China’s capital recently revisited Covid restrictions due to another outbreak, it has been confirmed that the capital will loosen mobility curbs in several country districts. Authorities have stated that the outbreak is under control and total cases have continued declines in cities such as Beijing and Shanghai.
Public transportation such as buses, subways, and taxis will resume their operations in three districts. Shopping centers outside of the controlled areas in the city will also get back to operation within capacity limits, according to Xu Hejian, a spokesman for the Beijing City Government.
For six straight days, the number of new infections has slipped. Beijing has recorded no cases outside of quarantine last week.
“This round of outbreak has been effectively controlled.”
Xu Hejian said.
However, community spread is the key metric at hand. Shanghai has begun unraveling lockdown measures as well after reporting consecutive days of zero community cases. Workers in Beijing districts will be allowed to return to their workplaces. Hotels and hotels in districts will be reopened as well.
As of Saturday, the city reported 12 new local cases. When compared to the peak of almost 100 earlier in the reemergence this is pebbles. Officials are still warning of challenges in trying to completely erase the spread of the virus.
“Beijing is on a key stage of shifting from an emergency response to the virus outbreak to handling the situation on a more regular basis. The risk of a resurgence remains and we still need to consolidate the prevention work.
Schools and kindergartens will remain suspended in the city and university campuses will stay closed, with students urged to go home before the summer holidays.”
