China calls U.S. 'main instigator' of Ukraine crisis
China and Russia have been growing closer together as allies ever since Russia invaded Ukraine in February. Recently, China announced what Russia has been saying all along: The United States is the “main instigator” in the Ukrainian-Russian war.
Zhang Hanhui, the Chinese ambassador to Moscow, accused the United States of “backing Russia into a corner with repeated expansions of NATO" and claims the supporting forces constantly seek to align with Ukraine and the European Union.
"As the initiator and main instigator of the Ukrainian crisis, Washington, while imposing unprecedented comprehensive sanctions on Russia, continues to supply arms and military equipment to Ukraine.
Their ultimate goal is to exhaust and crush Russia with a protracted war and the cudgel of sanctions."
Zhang Hanhui said.
The reasoning aligns with Russia’s justifications for the war. In February, Vladimir Putin traveled to China to solidify a “no limits” alliance. Adding on to other comments, Zhang Hanhui said that the relations between Russia and China have been entering “the best period in history, characterized by the highest levels of mutual trust, the highest degree of interaction, and the greatest strategic importance.”
Of course, one topic that was expected to come up in his conversation was United States House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s trip to Taiwan. Zhang Hanhui said the United States is attempting to apply the same tactics in Ukraine and in Taiwan. He said there are moves to "revive a Cold War mentality, contain China and Russia, and provoke major power rivalry and confrontation.”
"Non-intervention in internal affairs is the most fundamental principle of maintaining peace and stability in our world.”
Zhang Hanhui said.
