Drones are now being used to Fight Deforestation!

Deforestation is one of the climate issues we should all be talking about. The UN’s Environment Program claims that the earth loses nearly 753,474,000,000 square feet of forests every year. A number so unfathomable that I would bet most of you didn’t read it.
When on the topic of deforestation, have you ever wondered what it would be like if engineers stopped making drones for war and began to create drones that shoot out seeds? I have - once or twice, don’t judge - and miraculously an Australian start-up that engineers drones that shoot seed pods into the ground are a reality!
AirSeed Technology is using AI and specially design seed pods to do so. CEO and co-founder, Andrew Walker, says "Each of our drones can plant over 40,000 seed pods per day and they fly autonomously. In comparison to traditional methodologies, that's 25 times faster, but also 80% cheaper."
The pods are created using waste biomass which provides a coating to protect the seeds from birds, insects, and rodents. Once they’re up, the drones use fixed flight paths to reach their destination. They also plant the seeds to predefined patterns and record each seed’s coordinates.
"The niche really lies in our biotech, which is the support system for the seed once it's on the ground. It protects the seed from different types of wildlife, but also supports the seed once it germinates and really helps deliver all of those nutrients and mineral sources that it needs, along with some probiotics to really boost early-stage growth."
Walker said.
The company has already worked to plant more than 50,000 trees with a goal of 100 Million by the year 2024. A feat not too far out of their innovative minds’ reach!

"We're being very mindful of the fact that we need to restore soil health, we need to restore microbial communities within the soil, and we need to restore primary habitat providers for animals.”
Walker continues, backing his belief that the sky is the limit.
