eBay Witnesses Massive surge of iPod Searches after Announcement of Discontinuation
Prices also have soared...
Just recently Apple announce the discontinuation of our childhoods - the iPod. “If we didn’t do the iPod, the iPhone wouldn’t have come out. iPod brought us confidence. It brought Steve [Jobs] confidence we could do something outside of the map and that we could actually continue to innovate in new areas,” Tony Fadell, the former Apple Senior Vice President, said as the company waved its final goodbyes.
However, since the announcement, increased searches for used and new iPods have begun to ramp up on eBay. Just three days after the announcement was made, searches for iPods soared +372%.
iPod Touch First Generation witnessed an increase of 420% in those three days.
iPod First and Second Generation witnessed an increase of 290% and 270% respectively in those three days.
The iPod Seventh Generation witnessed an increase of 255% in the month of May.
Increased searches for iPods have also led to increased searches for old Apple computers. Searches for such computers were up 240% in the three days after the announcement of the discontinuation of the iPod which can signal the eventual discontinuation of older Apple computers as well.
An auction is currently running on eBay for an Apple 1 computer that is one of only 80 originals in existence. Even as it is a restored piece, it includes an autograph of Steve Wozniak. Expert collectors estimate the auction could exceed $500,000 and at the time of writing, the auction currently sits at $100,201.
