Emmanuel Macron and Vladimir Putin Come to Terms Concerning the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Plant in Ukraine
Vladimir Putin has agreed to send experts from the International Atomic Energy Agency to manage and watch over the site.
Emmanuel Macron, the President of France, told Vladimir Putin that he is concerned about the safety risks at the Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant in Ukraine. He also stated that Vladimir Putin has agreed to send experts from the International Atomic Energy Agency to manage and watch over the site. Both presidents also agreed to continue talks in the coming days concerning the situation.
The nuclear power operator in Ukraine said that it has suspected Russia of planning a decoupling of the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant from the Ukrainian grid. The operation is heavily complex, but it would give Russia an upper hand due to the disaster it would cause in Ukraine.
Russia has provided a readout that shows Vladimir Putin saying that the shelling of the nuclear site created the risk of a “large-scale catastrophe” and added that the majority of the threats came from the Ukrainian military.
