Emmanuel Macron will host Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman today as a key piece to the Western allies’ efforts to provide more oil-producing states as the Russia - Ukraine war continues. Many opposition figures and those conducting the human rights groups have criticized the French President’s decision to invite the Pince to dinner.
The visit comes just two weeks after President Biden visited Saudi Arabia. The West is very much set on resetting the relations between them and the Arab Oil Giants.
"The rehabilitation of the murderous prince will be justified in France as in the United States by arguments of realpolitik. But it's actually bargaining that predominates, let's face it."
Agnes Callamard, the Amnesty International Secretary General, said.
France isn’t alone as other European countries have been seeking routes to diversify their sources of energy following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. The hope from Macron is that Riyadh, the world's largest oil exporter, to raise production. France is one of Riyadh’s main arms suppliers and has experienced relentless pressures due to the humanitarian crisis.
