Glenn Thompson Attended his Gay Son's Wedding Three Days after Voting Against the Respect for Marriage Act
"The Thompsons are very happy to welcome their new son-in-law into their family.”
Glenn Thompson attended his gay son’s wedding just a short three days after voting against a House bill that aimed to codify the federal protections concerning same-sex marriage throughout the United States. His son said that he had “married the love of his life” and that his father “was in attendance.”
“Congressman and Mrs. Thompson were thrilled to attend and celebrate their son’s marriage on Friday night as he began this new chapter in his life. The Thompsons are very happy to welcome their new son-in-law into their family.”
Maddison Stone, Glenn Thomson’s Press Secretary, said.
In an email last week, a local newspaper Centre Daily Maddison Stone claimed the vote for the Respect for Marriage Act was simply “nothing more than an election-year messaging stunt for Democrats in Congress who have failed to address historic inflation and out-of-control prices at gas pumps and grocery stores.”
Glenn Thompson joined his other 157 counterparts who also voted against the bill. Now in Senate, the Respect for Marriage Act is being considered. There, 10 Republicans must join all 50 Democrats to send the legislation to the President. One of five Republican Senators has already confirmed a vote in favor of the bill. 71% of Americans currently support same-sex marriage, including a large amount of Republicans, according to Gallup polling.
