North Carolina Felons have Regained their Voting Privileges

Political News

Following an appeals court ruling, nearly 10,000 people serving punishments for felony convictions in North Carolina who aren’t behind bars can now register and vote. The expansions of the scope of those able to vote proceeds from litigation challenging a 1973 law that prevents convicted felons from having any form of voting rights restored while they’re on probation, parole, or supervision post-release.

The trial judges overturned the law in March and declared it violates the North Carolina constitution largely because it discriminates against Black residents.

The United States will Upgrade its Defense in the Situation that Nancy Pelosi Travels to Taiwan

World News

The United States has announced it has very little fear in the threats sent by China concerning a visit of Nancy Pelosi to Taiwan even as she would be entering one of the hottest spots where any false move may spark her safety.

Government officials have said that if Nancy Pelosi goes to Taiwan, the United States military would be increasing its movement of forces and assets in the Indo-Pacific area. No actual details as to what that involves were given, but it is said that fighter jets, ships, surveillance assets, and other military systems would be implemented. Officials also indicated that any foreign travel by a senior United States leader will require additional security measures.

“If there’s a decision made that Speaker Pelosi or anyone else is going to travel and they asked for military support, we will do what is necessary to ensure the safe conduct of their visit. And I’ll just leave it at that,” Mark Milley, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff said.

Today we Find out if we will Experience a “Hard” or “Soft” Landing for the U.S. Economy

Economic News

The Fed is attempting to land inflation “softly” from the highest point in the air as strong economic activity and elevated inflation continue. Today, the answers as to whether we are expecting a hard or soft landing for the economy will begin to be released. Jerome Powell has indicated a move toward an easing with the rate hikes of March, May, and June.

If another raise of 75bps occurs today, the Fed will bring rates to a range of 2.25%-2.50%, more known as a “neutral” level estimated to be the point at which any further rate increase would be deemed “restrictive” to the economic activity in the United States. Many economists have already speculated that the rates would be brought to this territory sometime in September — not August.

Liz Cheney’s new Ad Focuses Against the Claims of the 2020 Election is Stolen

Political News

As Liz Cheney closes down the end of her campaign for re-election, her new TV ad highlights her opponents’ belief of the lie surrounding election fraud in the 2020 election. The ad features comments made about the election by three of her primary opponents during the June primary debate.

Harriet Hageman, a Trump-backed attorney, opens the advertisement by saying, "We have serious questions about the 2020 election." Another sign that Liz Cheney is doubling down on her focus against the claims of the 2020 election being stolen.

"We've got to elect serious leaders. We have to elect leaders who will take their oath of office seriously. Leaders who won't simply say what they think people want to hear," Liz Cheney said as the ad concludes.
