Hillary Clinton is the next Democrat to Dismiss the "Defund the Police" Movement
Many Democrats have blamed the slogan being falsely tied to Joe Biden as the reason they may have missed Senate seats...
Hillary Clinton does not hold a great rep with many American citizens as the former Secretary of State. In a recent interview, Hillary Clinton provided her own opinion on the effectiveness of the "Defund the Police" movement. Some may be shocked, but her argument of needing to be more balance between maintaining public safety and boosting accountability is one many Americans can get behind.
Hillary said the extreme positions only work to push alienation among voters which is a position many Democrats have taken in response to the slogan.
"You need accountable measures. But you also need policing. It doesn't even pass the common-sense politics test not to believe that. Some positions are so extreme on both the right and the left that they retreat to their corners ... Politics should be the art of addition, not subtraction."
Hillary Clinton said.
Millions of Americans took to the streets in protest of the killing of George Floyd in May 2022. Many progressive activists and politicians alike began to call for the reallocation of funds away from the police. Some activists even called for the complete ending of the police department, which is a position many Republicans have pushed to tie to President Biden during his run in 2020.
Democrats have blamed the slogan for being the reason they lost so many House seats in 2020 quickly after Biden publically dismissed the idea surrounding the Republican lie formed around him. Hillary stated that this will be an important position for the election in 2024.
"We are standing on the precipice of losing our democracy, and everything that everybody else cares about then goes out the window. Look, the most important thing is to win the next election. The alternative is so frightening that whatever does not help you win should not be a priority."
Hillary Clinton concluded.
