Individual Pride in America is Dropping Alarmingly Fast
A survey looking to find the number of individuals proud of America finds pride in the country is reaching new lows...
National Pride is something that was polled year by year starting in 2001 by Gallup. Since the polling began, the trend has been taking a turn for the worst and this year, national pride has plummeted to an all-time low, according to Katharina Buchholz of Statista. Gallup’s latest survey in June indicated that Americans claiming proudly to be so fell to just 38%.
When adding up the Americans who felt a mix of extremely proud or just very proud in America, the figures drop from 69% in 2021 surveys to 65% in 2022 surveys. Keep in mind (as the graph shows) that this is just 2% higher than the time of the presidential election in 2020.
The survey was then broken down into political spectrum beliefs. Democrats have experienced the steepest drop in national pride with only 26% of individuals identifying as Democrats claiming they were extremely proud of their country in 2022. In 2021, this figure was sitting at 31%. Republicans, on the other hand, landed a whopping 58% of individuals classifying as so saying they were extremely proud of America in 2022.
Political polarization, yet again, seeps its way into becoming the middle agent. There is a record 54-point gap in feelings of extreme pride between Republicans and Democrats in 2019.
