Inspections for the START Weapons Treaty will be Discontinued by Russia
Russia added that they remain committed to all other provisions of the treaty.
The United States has been informed by Russian officials that the country will be suspending inspection activities under the START arms control treaty. Russia added that they remain committed to all other provisions of the treaty. According to the Russian Foreign Ministry, “Russia has been forced to resort to this measure as a result of Washington's insistence that it will inevitably seek to restart inspection activities on conditions that do not take current realities into account.”
“Conditions proposed by the United States create unilateral advantages for the United States and effectively deprive the Russian Federation of the right to conduct inspections on American territory.”
The Russian Foreign Ministry added.
Last week, Russia warned that time was running out for the United States to step up negotiation for a replacement for the New START treaty after President Biden proposed a solution. According to both countries, if the treaty expires on the date set in 2026 with no replacement set, global security would be weakened massively.
