Kamala Harris visits Highland Park
Just one day after the mass shooting during a Fourth of July parade, Vice President Kamala Harris goes to Highland Park...
Vice President Kamala Harris made a trip to Highland Park today after the mass shooting yesterday during a Fourth of July parade. She came with a message to everybody saying, “gun violence can happen anywhere.”
"There's a lot of healing that's going to have to happen that is both physical and emotional. There's no question that this experience is something that is going to linger in terms of the trauma. I'd like to urge all the families and all the individuals to seek the support you so rightly deserve.
We've got to be smarter as a country in terms of who has access to what — and in particular assault weapons. We have to take this stuff seriously. As seriously as you are because you have been forced to take it seriously. The whole nation should understand and have a level of empathy to understand that this can happen anywhere, in any peace-loving community."
Kamala Harris said while speaking at the scene of the deadly Fourth of July shooting.
The suspect in the shooting has been charged with seven counts of first-degree murder. If convicted, Robert E. Crimo III could face a mandatory life sentence. More charges are expected to come including more counts of attempted murder, aggravated battery, and aggravated discharge.
