Liz Truss being the Frontrunner in the Conservative Party Election in the U.K. is bringing Unease to the EU
Campaign officials claim her comments are just “jokes” and unlikely to have a lasting impact on the relationship between France and the U.K.
Liz Truss is set to be the United Kingdom’s next Prime Minister. Multiple people are anticipating her victory to get to the spot with unease as the same people claim that the last thing they need is another Brexit battle with the Ukrainian conflict as well as wild inflation. Truss is the frontrunner in the Conservative party election to succeed Boris Johnson.
As a foreign minister, she pushed for multiple legislative pieces that would unilaterally tear up part of the Brexit deal and also made promises as the Prime Minister to get the same pieces of legislation passed. Officials and analysts say that this would cause a collision course with Brussels.
"In the current context, it's baffling she thinks she can afford to make remarks like this. We're focused 200% on the war in Ukraine, and widespread inflation. We have no time to waste on this."
A Brussels diplomat said.
When asked if Emmanuel Macron was an ally, she said, “The Jury’s out.” Campaign officials claim her comments are just “jokes” and unlikely to have a lasting impact on the relationship between France and the U.K. However, sources within the French government claim the comments underline a lack of trust between the two countries.
