A man has been convicted of illegally giving his son an assault rifle which the son later used to shoot and kill four people in 2018 at a Waffle House. The man convicted, Jeffrey Reinking, was convicted last week of illegal delivery of a firearm to a person being treated for mental illness. The man remains free on bond until his sentencing next month.

During his bench trial, Tazewell County persecutors argued that the man knew his son had undergone mental health treatments just two years prior to the shootings. The police and fire authorities responded to a pharmacy parking lot where Travis Reinking, the son, and shooter, told officers Taylor Swift was stalking him and had hacked his phone.

Reports show that Travis was brought to the Peoria hospital for further evaluation. Furthermore, Travis agreed to the hospital visit and evaluation. Jeffrey Reinking’s lawyer argued at the trial that his client was unaware of his son’s treatment stating that he knew his son had visited the hospital but unknowing of the reason.

Travis gave his weapons to his father after having his firearm owner’s ID revoked by Illinois State Police. Travis’ father gave the uns back to him just before the fatal shooting. The gun used was an AR-15.

Travis was sentenced in February to life in prison without parole as he opened fire inside the Waffle House on April 22, 2018, killing four 20-year-olds.

More evidence and reports at the trial showed Travis had schizophrenia and suffered delusional episodes for years previous to the shooting. Law enforcement was contacted multiple times for such reasons.

If the craziness isn’t enough to prove to you that this man’s mental state isn’t straight and clear, in 2017, Travis was detained by the Secret Service after he went into a restricted area on the White House grounds and demanded to meet with then-President Donald Trump.
