A $3 Billion security assistance package for Ukraine is set to be announced this week by the United States. The package is being said to be sent as a “gift” to Ukraine for its Independence Day. Funding will come from the Ukraine Security Assitance Initiative by Congress which allows President Biden to produce weapons from industry instead of sending used weaponry.
An anonymous official claims the new weapons have not appeared to include types of arms provided previously to Ukraine. The package will supposedly focus more on ammunition and more defense systems. Under the Ukraine Security Assitance Initiative, weapons can take months to arrive.
The package adds to the already provided $10.6 Billion in military assistance to Ukraine since February 24th. More weapons are also planned to come from Germany as well as other air-defense systems, precision munitions, and rocket launchers. In total, the next wave of German aid will be worth an estimated $500 Million.
