Muriel Bowser, the Washington D.C. mayor, has declared a public emergency due to the buses of migrants sent by Republican governors from Arizona and Texas United States-Mexico border states. The order was issued with the goal of supporting arriving migrants by creating a new Office of Migrant Services and will devote nearly $10 Million to launch the office. Bowser stated that the “city will seek reimbursement from the federal government.”

As of this point, Greg Abbott, the Texas Governor, has sent nearly 8,000 migrants to Washington D.C. since April in an effort to push the responsibility of illegal immigrants to Democrats. The state of Arizona has sent much less with figures reaching 1,700. New York City has also received migrants from Texas — 2,200 to be exact. Chicago too has received 300 migrants from the southern state.

According to Bowser and her office, Greg Abbott’s actions are purely a “political stunt.” She said that the city itself is preparing for border crossings to increase into the fall season. Bowser said, "The crisis at the border is not lessening, it's getting worse.” It has been twice now that Muriel Bowser requested help for the overflow of migrants, specifically asking the National Guard. However, she was denied both times.
