New Polling Indicates Republicans are Favored to Win the House
A think piece surrounding what the Democrats need to do in order to win midterms and even the 2024 Presidency
American voters are on the edge of their seats as midterms come closer and closer every day. The current speculation is that a massive “Red Wave” is set to take place and Republicans may win more than anybody ever gave them credit for. For Democrats, things are looking grim. Even if the party wins all the races are labeled as “toss-ups” and hold on to their existing seats in which they’re favored to win, the majority would STILL NOT be theirs.
According to data released by FiveThirtyEight, 87 out of 100 scenarios sees the GOP taking control of the House. In terms of the Senate, it is a toss-up, however, Republicans hold the edge…
The question that lingers on everybody’s mind: Is there any possibility that Democrats win both the House and the Senate? In a general sense, there are many advantages that many people may look past too quickly. The Supreme Court, which is more conservative, has overturned Roe v. Wade - basically dismantling the idea that women can now choose what to do with or to their bodies. In addition to this, the January 6th Riots are being investigated. The focal point is Donald Trump’s involvement in the riots. As many know, there are still numerous Republicans who are Trump kiss asses which is something that can transpire if they win Senate and House.
With the advantages already present, it then turns into a game of strategy. How do the Democrats win House and Senate? The following is a simple, opinionated, guideline the Democrats would need to follow in order to win midterms…
Educate as to what is happening concerning gas prices
No matter what anybody says, it's important to understand what's contributing to the high prices of oil in the first place. In a March interview, Gregory Namet, a professor of public affairs at the University of Wisconsin-Madison’s Wisconsin Energy Institute pointed out that oil prices were already on the rise. This is due to the economic recovery from the pandemic era. More people have begun driving to work, for travel, and more. More people are also flying for travel as well. Obviously, demand by consumers and businesses had been cut short due to the Covid Pandemic and anybody with a simple mind understands, economically speaking, that when Demand goes up, so does Price.
Also, the United States imported an average of 209,000 barrels of Russian crude in 2021 as well as 500,000 barrels per day of other petroleum-based products, according to the American Fuel and Petrochemical Manufacturers. These numbers equate to 3% of the United States crude oil imports and roughly 1% of the oil processed in United States refineries.
It is true that the Keystone XL pipeline would have carried 830,000 barrels of crude oil from Canada to Nebraska daily at its peak. However, many experts continuously agree with the fact that continuing the project wouldn’t have prevented climbing gas prices. Global oil production would have increased by less than a percent, which is almost a negligible amount. The prices at the pump would still be rising. The United States DOUBLED oil production over the last 15 years and yet, we still have $100/barrel oil prices.
Gregory Namet said that the key lesson is “The United States is not the whole story here - it’s the global markets. We have 8 billion people consuming oil and many countries that are producing it, and it all goes into one market.”
In addition to all of this, no matter who the politician was currently, gas prices would have risen. Welcome to reality. The pipeline was exactly as the name entails - a pipeline - not an oil field…
Put the questioning and exploration of the smorgasbord of sexual identities on the back burner - reinvent it
Republicans have implemented this whole ideology of “grooming” children by updating the curriculum of sexual education by adding same-sex additions to it. For Democrats, the goal has already been met. It’s clear that the GOP wants to ban sexual education just for any ol’ reason, but they wish to ban it because there are LGBTQ+ elements to it. The homophobic narrative of “grooming” has already been set.
However, the issue lies in going beyond what it is already. Democrats have won this side. The willingness to implement LGBTQ+ elements into sexual education taught in schools has given the Democrats an edge in the cultural war. Issues arise due to the moderate voters who say “sexual orientation and education shouldn’t be taught at any level.” With this, I agree, that we shouldn’t speak about it, and in reality, it should be the parents’ obligation to speak about how the body changes as well as the birds and the bees.
Set this aspect to the back burner and focus on other aspects of the cultural side of things such as the actual rights of the LGBTQ+ community, women’s rights, abortion rights, etc. There may even be an argument to drop the cultural side of things and target what the GOP targets, but better…
Educate on Inflation
Inflation isn’t Joe Biden’s fault. Nor is it the fault of Democrats… As written previously by Uniic Media:
“The first rule taught in any introductory Economics class is as follows:
During an economic downturn, you cut taxes to spur economic development and to fight unemployment.
During economic booms, you raise the taxes to coll off the economy and fight inflation.
So this brings me to the fact that Trump inherited an undoubtedly booming economy and a budget surplus from Obama. However, he rejected common wisdom. Trump eventually pushed to cut taxes during an economic boom. This means the economy was already running a budget deficit by the time the Covid Pandemic hit. The Trump administration also printed TRILLIONS of dollars for stimulus checks and fraudulent PPP loans.”
The key will be to target Democratic voters who no longer vote Democrat
Those sitting in the space of “moderate” is who the Democrats should be targeting. There is such a small percentage chance that Republicans flip sides to vote Democrat, but there is a fair percentage chance that moderate voters can be swayed. Granted, this stands true for the GOP as well, but you would need to find some way to get the swing voters…
Other issues also arise as well, but I feel if the Democrats can genuinely put a back burner to the cultural issues (they literally surround all efforts around this) and focus on the same things the GOP uses against the Left, then there is a greater chance of success come November. Target Gun Violence, target Abortions, target Inflation, target Economic Recovery, target Rising Gas Prices. Drop the cultural issues… Everybody already knows the Democrats support progressive outlooks on everything BUT NOT EVERYBODY KNOWS THE DEMOCRATS ACTUALLY CARE ABOUT THE MIDDLE CLASS, GAS PRICES, INFLATION, GUN VIOLENCE, etc….
