Robert Tsao, the founder of United Microelectronics, made an announcement to fund a “strong countermeasure” against Chinese provocations against Taiwan. He said he would spend $32 Million of his own money to train “civilian warriors” to protect the island. According to Tsao, 3 million warriors can be trained within three years and he would work with the civilian defense organization to split funding (60% to the army and 40% to weapons).

“If we can successfully resist China’s ambitions, we not only will be able to safeguard our homeland but make a big contribution to the world situation and the development of civilization.”

Robert Tsao said.

The declaration was made after multiple Chinese military drills around the Taiwan Strait after the island received a visit from Nancy Pelosi. In 2011, Tsao gave up his Taiwanese citizenship in order to protest the government as they investigated his company for Chinese investments.

After being a vocal supporter of the unification of Taiwan and China for some time, the 2019 Hong Kong Democracy Movement was a “wake-up call” to him. He said, “Taiwan should not be turned into another Hong Kong.”

“I am excited about regaining my Taiwanese citizenship and want to stand with my fellow countrymen to fight against the invasion from the Chinese Communist Party and to safeguard Taiwan, making Taiwan a ‘land of the free and the home of the brave.”

Robert Tsao said.
