Not only was Roe being overturned enough for the conservatives, but now some House Republicans are pushing for national legislation to add an abortion ban at 15 weeks. The push for such a ban is a notable effort given that Republicans have a chance at taking back control of the house during midterms in November.

Lucky enough for literally the entire world, the legislation is unlikely to advance in the Senate in the near future. Still, however, the early discussions give a warning as to the efforts of those opposing abortion. It seems as if the GOP is really excited to use victory from yesterday to go full dystopia.

Representative Chris Smith stated he is planning to lower his proposed 20-week abortion ban down to 15 weeks in light of the elimination of Roe. Smith happens to be the main sponsor of the “Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act.” The bill has previously passed the House but Smith says he is pushing to make the ban a bit stricter this time around (in hopes of the GOP regaining control of the House).

"We're working on something along those lines. I have the 'Pain Capable' at 20 weeks. We're going to lower it to 15. There are all kinds of ideas there. But we don't have at this point the ability to overcome a veto or a filibuster," he added.

House Republicans have started discussions about what anti-abortion bills would be placed on the floor if they happen to win the majority. They have also used closed-door party meetings to discuss the messaging and strategy they wish to implement for their anti-abortion rhetoric.
