Russian Forces witness in Northern Mali Airport
German and French troops report seeing two planes specifically for Russian troops aiding in Mali...
Multiple Russian security forces were seen at the Gao airport in Northern Mali, according to German Troops. The reports come just a day after the last French soldiers were wrapping up operations. Originally, Berlin was participating in the U.N.’s peacekeeper mission in Mali which has been a controversial event as the country continues to forge ties with Russia.
The Malian army has been receiving aid from the Wagner Group, a Russian-linked private military company, to fight against Islamist insurgents. This has been ongoing cooperation for more than a year. Germany withdrew its support as local authorities in the country withheld flight clearances.
A document was sent out yesterday that states German and United Kingdom U.N. troops witnessed two planes that "Two hours later..., 20 to 30 persons in military uniforms not belonging to Mali's forces were seen unloading equipment from a Malian transport plane.”
"They were almost certainly members of the Russian security forces. It has to be assumed that the L-39 has to be operated by Russian forces as the Malian security forces are not up to it.
With the deployment of Russian forces and Russia providing high-value capabilities (ground attack aircraft) at Gao airport, the Malian forces are continuing to expand their area of operations with Russia's support towards the northeast.”
