Senator Josh Hawley Offers the Democratic-Led Senate Unannounced Priase
"There's a lesson there for the GOP. If they get back Congress, they better be willing to fight."
Outside their party lines, the Democrats have received subtle praise from Senator Josh Hawley. He claimed the Democrats “came to do something. I’ll give the Dems this: With a 50/50 Senate and a historically unpopular president, they passed major (terrible) legislation. Lots of it.”
The praise comes just a day after Senate passed the Inflation Reduction Act with a 51-50 party-line vote that came down to Kamala Harris breaking the tie. Chuck Schumer and Joe Manchin released the framework shortly after the CHIPS Act. Across the aisle, Mitch McConnel, the Senate Minority Leader, said that he will block the bill if Democrats pursued their reconciliation bill.
A Democratic Senate has also passed other bills such as gun restrictions and a bill to provide aid to veterans suffering from toxic burn pits. The House passed the Respect for Marriage Act which will be voted on by the Senate. Tammy Baldwin claims that the bill will most likely get the 10 Republican votes needed to pass through Senate.
