Should Parents of Trans Children be Investigated for Child Abuse? Majority of those Surveyed say Yes.
Another win on the cultural side for Democrats and even more reason to cut back on the pushing of said cultural side...
A recent data release from Pew Research Center found the true feeling Americans have about gender identity and transgender issues. While many speculate what the most alarming statistic was, some say that the most alarming would be the figures surrounding policies affected by anti-transgender laws across the country.
Over half (59%) of the Republicans surveyed say that parents of transgender youths should be put under investigation for some form of child abuse if they are aiding somebody under the age of 18 to receive gender transition medical care. On the flip side of the political spectrum, only 17% of Democrats feel this way.
72% of Republicans surveyed also believe it should be illegal for health care professionals to aid in gender transitions for individuals younger than 18. Once again, on the flip side, only 26% of Democrats feel this way. I would say this isn’t necessarily alarming. You also have to be 18 years of age to get a tattoo and other age restrictions exist for things. I do believe a doctor nor a parent should aid in ANY of this until AFTER the age of 18.
85% of Republicans or individuals who are moderate leaning Republican say the country should require transgender athletes to compete on teams that match the sex they were assigned at birth. I think they should just make an all-inclusive transgender league. Currently, in the U.S., 18 states including (obviously) Florida and Texas have deemed it illegal for transgender students to participate in sports consistent with their gender identity. 35% of Democrats feel the same as that 85% of Republicans.
67% of Republicans surveyed and 20% of Democrats surveyed believe in forcing transgender individuals to use a bathroom matching their assigned sex at birth. 69% of Republicans surveyed and 18% of Democrats surveyed believe it should be illegal to teach about gender identity in public elementary schools.
48% (only) of Republicans in the survey support anti-discrimination laws protecting transgenders at their jobs and in public areas. 80% of Democrats support these laws. 7% of Republicans believe insurance companies should cover the cost of gender transitions while 44% of Democrats believe the health care companies should. This is another statistic in which I would have to side with the GOP.
At the end of the day, the numbers are the numbers. There is no disputing them and even if some people view them as “messed up,” we can’t change it. For Democrats headed into the midterms, there shouldn’t be a necessary focus on these topics due to the fact that polling like this exists, the public is aware, and Republicans have already made themselves out to be homophobic and transphobic. What I am saying is Democrats have won this side of the cultural battle and it is now time to shift more into yelling “Gay” and focusing on abortion, gun safety, etc.
