Switzerland will drop its technical label of “neutral” in order to adopt the measures taken by the European Union against China in the scenario they invade Taiwan. China has been increasing the military pressures around the Taiwan Strait. Taiwan says that only its citizens can decide their future.
Marie-Gabrielle Ineichen-Fleisch, the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs Director, said that she “strongly believes we would adopt such sanctions,” when asked if Switzerland would adopt the sanctions possibly in the future from the rest of the EU.
"However, sanctions in the case of China would be far more drastic (than sanctions against Russia) because the economic relations are much more important. Therefore, there would probably be greater discussions in the EU and the United States as well as in Switzerland than there were in Russia. But I hope it will never come to that."
Marie-Gabrielle Ineichen-Fleisch said.
Ever-growing pressures have been placed on Switzerland to identify and freeze the assets of hundreds of sanctioned Russian oligarchs. Up to this month, the country has frozen nearly $7.04 Billion worth of Russian financial assets and nearly 15 properties. Marie-Gabrielle Ineichen-Fleisch said, "We at SECO have no indication that there are many assets of sanctioned persons that have not yet been found.”
