Tayyip Erdogan Voices his Opinion as to how to Reach a Diplomatic Settlement between Ukraine and Russia
He says the route to achieving this is to return to negotiations based on the parameters formed at the meeting in Istanbul which took place earlier this year.
The need to reach a diplomatic settlement between Ukraine and Russia has been issued heavily emphasized by Tayyip Erdogan, the President of Turkey. He says the route to achieving this is to return to negotiations based on the parameters formed at the meeting in Istanbul which took place earlier this year. The statement comes after a meeting with Volodymyr Zelenskyy and the UN Secretary general, Antonio Guterres.
Tayyip Erdogan claimed that during the negotiations that occurred in Istanbul, both members assessed the chances of transforming the positive atmosphere created by an agreement into permanent peace. Erdogan said, "The international community has a great responsibility for the restoration of the diplomatic process, we specifically pointed out that this should be done.”
"We expressed concern about the ongoing fighting around the Zaporizhzhia NPP. We do not want to experience a new Chornobyl. As Turkey, on the one hand, we are making efforts to end the conflict through a diplomatic solution, on the other hand, we have been supporting our Ukrainian friends and continue doing so.
Personally, I believe that this war will eventually end at the negotiating table. Actually, Mr. Zelensky and Guterres agree on this issue. The whole point is to determine the shortest and fairest way to the negotiating table. We are ready to play the role of facilitator or mediator again to provide all kinds of support to achieve this goal.”
