Tesla sends in its Application for land for Future Giga Berlin Plant Expansion
The expansion comes as no surprise as the MIG Tesla Model Y has increased production...
Tesla has reportedly proceeded forward to secure more land for the potential expansion of the Giga Berlin plant, according to reports directly from Germany.
Early May saw Tesla showing interest in an additional plot of land adjacent to the already owned plot of property measuring 300-hectares. Yesterday, Grünheide's Mayor Arne Christiani confirmed Tesla’s filing to acquire the land.
This doesn’t mean that Tesla will snatch up the plot of land, but it does mean that it’s expected that the new government will review the plans and decide. Many are speculating a high probability that Tesla will get the thumbs up.
The expansion comes as no surprise as the Tesla Model Y has increased production. Originally, the Made-In-Germany Model Y was being produced in a single shift using 2170-type cylindrical battery cells from China. Tesla has since then reportedly added the second shift, according to Drive Tesla.
The number of cars being produced per day still remains unknown, but it’s most likely in the five-digit range on a month-to-month basis. This is a massive accomplishment still as Europe is constrained, like the rest of the world, due to production and supply chain struggles in China.
