Even though there has been some positive economic news released, such as the job numbers reported on Friday, many voters still maintain a despiteful outlook on the economy and continue to remain very negative for the future of Biden’s economy. With the midterms also just around the corner, President Biden’s approval ratings continue to fall off.

Nearly 70% of Americans believe the economy is actually getting worse. For comparison, in 2008 — a time of a literal economic downfall — 82% of Americans felt this way. 12% of people right now believe the economy is getting better and 18% say it is staying the same. The outlook on the Biden administration’s handling of the economy is negative as well. 37% of Americans approve of the job Biden and his administration are doing to reinvigorate the economy and 62% of Americans claim disapproval.

The rating on inflation individually is very much worse. 29% of Americas say they approve of the job of the Biden administration to ease Inflation while 69% of Americans disapprove. This has been an unchanged figure when compared to the June polling. Some improvements have been recorded in the handling of gas prices. 35% of Americans approve of the handling of gas currently being worked upon by the Biden administration showing a 7% increase from June. The average cost of gas per gallon has come down to nearly $4.00/gal.

The low confidence in the Biden administration and their efforts to make the economy better comes after the Friday report which showed that 528,000 jobs were added in July and that unemployment stooped to 3.5%. However, situations such as the denial of a recession and the fact that full-time employees are decreasing may be some of the leading — yet unmentioned — reasoning for the disapproval overall.

In terms of enthusiasm for voting in November, 75% of Republicans are either very or somewhat enthusiastic while 68% of Democrats and 49% of Independents are very or somewhat enthusiastic.

When asked about abortion, nearly 50% of Americans claimed they would be more likely to support a candidate who would keep abortion access legal. 27% of Americans claimed they would support candidates aiming to limit abortion. 22% of Americans claim abortion would be no impact on who they voted for.
