Footage of the riot projected in the room

Members of Congress just hogged the microphone in the event which was being billed as something other than an ordinary congressional event.

It didn’t begin as such. Mr. Thompson kept his remarks short and sweet and Ms. Cheney spoke like a freaking robot for nearly an hour.

Words she spoke died out in lengthy paragraphs even as the allegations were serious. She also added numbered lists and "we will show you" expository statements.

However, a turn of events came around as the committee ran an extended video of the attack coming from security and police body camera footage that was blended with Trump’s speech excerpts and tweets. At this moment, the drama of the day became visceral, not cerebral.

The room was left silent as the video came to an ending. Many members of Congress, as well as onlookers, sat in astonishment. In a more heartfelt setting, the back of the room was filled with a stunned and quiet family of police officers who died after the attacks choking back tears.
