Liz Cheney’s Re-Election in Wyoming is Very Uncertain
Political News
Confidence in predicting Liz Cheney’s primary outcome is slim to none. No one has a clue as to what will happen, even though the general thought is that she will be facing an uphill battle and she still is just to retain her Congressional seat. A few polls have been released, and they show Cheney down by large margins.
Political insiders in Wyoming say it is hard to accurately poll the state. This rings true especially when it’s hard to know how many voters will turn out and who they will be. The same political insiders saying it is hard to poll Wyoming are also saying that even if the polls are off, it is abundantly clear that Liz Cheney is trailing Harriet Hageman (her opponent). With a month to go until the August primary, there is a sense among people that there are ripples of movement that are harder to detect except through private conversations.
Even as his Words gave Disappointment to the Palestinian People, Biden says World “Cannot Wait” for Mideast Peace
Political News
As he continues his trip to the Middle East, President Biden says he remains supportive of an independent Palestinian state but says the “ground is not ripe” for restarting peace talks between Israel and the Palestinians. Biden then delivered the assessment with Mahmoud Abbas, the Palestinian President, in the West Bank.
Palestinians were disappointed to hear Biden’s words as they were looking to the United States to pressure Israel into restarting existing peace talks. The last effort of substantive talks collapsed over a decade ago. Biden concluded his assessment by saying the world “cannot wait” for a peace agreement and stated the steps need to be taken in the right direction for the Palestinian people.
Biden’s assessment comes after he signed a joint agreement with Israel to never allow a nuclear Iran. Many say the signing of the agreement is a massive reinforcement of the Israel-United States relationship, which may have off-put many Palestinians.
Xinjiang gets a visit from Xi as rising Human Rights Abuses Persist
World News
Xi Jinping, the Chinese leader, visited the Xinjiang region this week amid concerns over China’s detention of a million or more members of primarily Muslim ethnic native minorities. Xi called the region a “core area and a hub” in China’s plans to build ports, power stations, and railways that will connect it to economies out of Central Asia to Eastern Europe.
Authorities under Xi have gone forward with crackdowns on Xinjiang’s native Uygur and Kazakh population following an outburst of deadly separatist violence. Many have criticized the crackdown that placed many of those natives into prison-like camps as cultural genocide. The United States and other allies have placed Chinese officials responsible under visa bans for their part in extra-legal detentions, incarcerating people, and separation of families for studying abroad or having foreign contracts.
The Dollar’s Rising, the Euro is Shedding Value: What Gives?
Economic News
Interest rates are running wild in the United States as the Fed attempts a cooling the also wild inflation. If global investors want to get paid the relatively higher interest rates here, they sell their local currency, buy dollars, and invest in United States bonds to just end up pocketing the difference. In a weak economy, foreign investors are buying the dollar for its relative safety.
As we witnessed earlier this week, inflation checked in at a wild 9.1% and as inflation is an obvious mess tied with the obvious political mess in the United States, there are so far no fears within the investor community that the United States government will fail to meet its financial obligations.
The greenback has nearly reached parity with the Euro for the first time in two decades.
The yen is down nearly 20% against the greenback YOY. This is something very unheard of in the modern era.
Against the greenback, Bitcoin has shed 70% since November highs of ~$69,000.
New Records Indicate Caitlin Bernard DID Report the Abortion Performed on the 10-Year-Old Ohio Rape Victim
Political News
As speculation mounts surrounding the case of a 10-year-old girl having to travel to Indiana to have an abortion after being raped increase, many officials have begun to question the legitimacy of the case. In the case of Indiana Attorney General Todd Rokita, he has even questioned whether the doctor who aided in the abortion reported the procedure to state officials, which is required by law.
Todd Rokita raised his doubts yesterday in a letter to Eric Holcomb, the Indiana Governor, saying his office had requested and didn’t receive, documents from state agencies that the girl’s abortion had been properly reported by Caitlin Bernard. However, records have recently been obtained by the Post that shows Caitlin Bernard did report the abortion to the relevant state agencies before the legal deadline. As of now, Kathleen DeLaney, Caitlin Bernard’s attorney, has claimed Caitlin is “considering legal action against those who have smeared [her], including Indiana Attorney General Todd Rokita.”
