The ReAwaken America Tour is cut short as it's Rochester Stop is Canceled
The venue originally hosting the event has canceled after receiving pleas from the public...
The “ReAwaken America” tour’s stop in August at an upstate New York venue was concealed after receiving local backlash. Scott Donaldson, the owner of the Main Street Armory, wrote an email detailing his decision after taking consideration in response to “concern from our community, both good and bad."
"I'd like to say that the Main Street Armory is an equal opportunity and non-political venue. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, gender, gender expression, age, national origin, disability, etc.
I believe everyone has the right to their own opinions and beliefs.”
Scott Donaldson's statement read.
Clay Clark, the events organizer, has received massive waves of criticism as his event has been deemed a “hotbed for far-right extremist groups like QAnon.” Christian leaders have also stated the events promote Christian nationalism and make a great effort to push "anti-democratic, pro-violence and Q-Anon-inspired ideology."
Speakers on tour feature names such as Mike Lindell (MyPillow CEO), Alex Jones (InfoWars host), Michael Flynn (the former National Security Advisor), and Roger Stone (a one-off political advisor to Trump). Due to such controversial guests, a petition was created by New York residents urging the hosting spot to withdraw from hosting the tour. Many claimed the event would "likely draw white supremacists and other members of hate groups from around the northeast to our community."
Another reason for the plea from the public to cancel the event is that it falls exactly on the anniversary of the demonstration of White Supremacists in Charlottesville. Currently, the petition has gained 2,000 signatures.
