Russia has always done well in battles when the winter came. Names such as Napoleon and Hitler have fallen victim to the harsh winter. Vladimir Putin is now saying that high energy prices and the continued rising prices this winter will force Ukraine and Europe into a truce. Russian sources have also said that it is the only path to peace that the Russian government sees.

"We have time, we can wait. It's going to be a difficult winter for Europeans. We could see protests and unrest. Some European leaders might think twice about continuing to support Ukraine and think it's time for a deal."

Said one of the sources.

"It will be really tough if it (the war) drags into the autumn and winter. So there's hope they (the Ukrainians) will ask for peace.”

The second source said adding that Russian thought it could already detect the downfall of European unity.

No country that is currently backing Ukraine has any plans to bow to Russia. Ursula von der Leyen, the European Commission President, said “The E.U. has been with you [the Ukrainian citizens] in this fight from the very beginning and we will be for as long as it takes.”

The United States has invested billions of dollars into Ukrainian military aid, and shared intelligence, and has performed multiple morale-boosting attacks on high-profile Russian targets. United States officials also claim Ukraine has a chance of changing the facts on the ground.

"In order for negotiations with Russia to become possible, it is necessary to change the status quo at the front in favor of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. It is necessary that the Russian army suffer significant tactical defeats."

Mykhailo Podolyak, a Ukrainian presidential advisor, said.
