Multiple Republican candidates in the state of Georgia are showing the true flaws in first-time candidate Herschel Walker’s campaign. After being endorsed by Donald Trump, it seems as if his hopes of being Raphael Warnock are slowly dwindling. So far, Herschel Walker’s main push in his campaign is, as said by many GOP members, “his popularity and name recognition.”

Recently, Mitch McConnell, the Senate Republican Leader, stated that “candidate quality” will be the reason that the Republican party will struggle to take over the majority in the United States Senate. More specifically, McConnell claimed the GOP had a “50-50 chance.” However, he didn’t name any specific names as to who was lacking in “candidate quality” but the races won’t lie.

More States will Enact Near-Total Abortion Bans this Week

This week will be a tough week for abortion access as four more states will enact near-total abortion bans. Currently, 13 states have passed trigger laws that were designed to get rid of abortion access if the Supreme Court were to overturn Roe v. Wade, which they did. The majority of the states ended up enacting the laws directly after the decision but states such as Texas, Tennessee, and Idaho all waited nearly a month until doing so.

Thursday is the deadline for laws to be enacted. North Dakota’s law is set to be in effect on Friday. Changes won’t be dramatic and states already had an anti-abortion line of laws in place. Clinics in these areas have already ceased operations and moved to other states as well.

Russia and South Korea Agree to $2.25 Billion Construction Deal

A $2.25 Billion deal has been struck between South Korea and a nuclear energy company in Russia to provide components to aid in the building of Egypt’s first nuclear power plant. The contract between the Korea Hydro and Nuclear Power and the ASE requires South Korea to provide the equipment and construction work for the plant.

Yoon Suk Yeol’s senior aid said that an “unexpected variable” had previously slowed negotiations. In reality, the main slowing of the negotiations occurred due to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and the resulting sanctions imposed on Russia by the rest of the world.

However, those that have been stalking the Fed’s moves, especially Jerome Powell’s, have claimed that his message tomorrow morning will be a reminder that the economic downturn will be something that continues. In a more direct sense, this means that the Fed will continue to hike rates until inflation eases.

Jan Hatzius, an economist at Goldman Sachs, says, “We expect Powell to reiterate his case for slowing the pace of tightening, while also stressing that the FOMC remains committed to bringing inflation down and that policy decisions at upcoming meetings—including in September—will depend on incoming data. This will require striking a delicate balance.”

Redacted Affidavit to be Filed Today by DOJ

The long-awaited redacted version of the affidavit used by the DOJ to support/pass the search warrant of Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago home is set to be filed today. Bruce Reinhart, a United States Magistrate Judge, is currently weighing the possibility of making the search warrant public as he claims he was not “inclined to keep the full affidavit sealed” as he added that he believes there are “portions of it that could presumably be unsealed.”

In court last week, the redactions have been said to be necessary to protect the integrity of an ongoing investigation. Without said redactions, the DOJ and FBI claimed the documents would be rendered “meaningless.” The weighing of unsealing the affidavit as well as the search warrant comes as multiple media companies have urged the court for the release. The reasoning? Lawyers with the media groups cited “the need to further inform the public in light of the historic nature of the search of a former president’s residence.”
