Airbus Closing $5.5 Billion Order with Jet Airways
Airbus has emerged as the front runner to win an aircraft order worth as much as $5.5 Billion from Jet Airways, according to people familiar with the matter, solidifying the European plane maker’s hold in the world’s fastest-growing aviation market.
The talks are for A320neo jets and A220 planes, the people said, asking not to be identified because the deliberations are private. Boeing Co and Embraer SA are also in discussions and no final decision had been taken, the people said. Although at sticker prices any transaction would be north of $5 Billion, discounts are common in such large purchases.
Pelosi Signals Votes to Codify Key SCOTUS Rulings
In a letter to her caucus, Pelosi hinted at bills to respond to Justice Clarence Thomas' concurring opinion in Dobbs v. Jackson calling for the court to revisit landmark rulings protecting same-sex relationships, marriage equality, and access to contraceptives.
Much of this legislation will likely go nowhere in the Senate, where 60 votes are needed to bypass the filibuster.
Migrants found Dead Inside a Semi Truck in San Antonio
At least 46 people were found dead Monday in sweltering conditions in a semi truck in San Antonio, according to authorities, in a scene the mayor called a "horrific human tragedy."
The victims were migrants, City Councilwoman Adriana Rocha Garcia said Monday after a briefing by the San Antonio police chief. Their discovery comes as US federal authorities have launched an "unprecedented" operation to disrupt human smuggling networks.
The West Moves Towards More Effective Ways to Strengthen Sanctions on Russia
Leaders of the Group of 7 nations moved close to embracing an aggressive but untried plan to manipulate the price of oil, the largest commodity market in the world, yesterday.
The plan is an acknowledgment that the embargoes the United States and allies swiftly imposed on Moscow’s lucrative energy exports have not dented Russian oil revenues. And they have driven up gasoline and other fuel prices, prompting consumer backlash in the United States and Europe.
A Republican Candidate in Virginia says she Doubts Rape Victims get Pregnant
A female Republican congressional candidate claimed on the campaign trail in Virginia last month that rape victims are less likely to become pregnant because “it’s not something that’s happening organically.”
Yesli Vega made the eyebrow-raising comments while being asked for her thoughts on what then promised to be a Supreme Court decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, ending the federal right to abortion.
An audio recording of the remarks, which took place at an event in Stafford County, was published by Axios. Vega said she was drawing on her experience as a Prince William County supervisor and a sheriff’s deputy after affirming her belief in state-level restrictions on abortion.
